My squash ( 744 Welty) is presently at 215 OTT at day 29 ( appx. 217 lbs). Well the last 6 days have been 92 degrees + with heat indexes over 100. Somehow it has managed to pick up on the average of 14 lbs a day through all this heat. The plant is not wilting at all & I'm keeping the ground "moist". Has anyone had to deal with this & does the fruit generally bounce back when the extreme temps. subside.
With these temps. I'm happy getting anything over 10 lbs a day. By the way today the high is for 98 degrees with the heat index at about 108.........Paul

Say Paul...We could sure use some of that "heat" in the Northwest. We have had below average temps for ten straight days and the forecast is for seven more. Since our average high is 78° this time of year, you can see that we are in a "world of hurt"! Pumpkin growth has slowed noticeably.

I have to agree with Paul. Living in also Ohio the heat is being a real problem with also NO RAIN. I am also keeping the soil as moist as possible. Also I made my shade shelter around my pumpkin bigger to give it more air. Seems to helped. My 871 Wentzell now is 234 at day 32.

You guys are doing great compared to me. We have been in the 90's for some time but come Tuesday it is to be in the 70.s! Yeah!~ Also no rain. My pumpkin is 13 days old, hasn't grown in the last couple of days. At 10 days was 37" circ. I hope she will bounce back. Newbie here. Mary

East Coast chimes in. We have had a persistent heat wave with temps 95-100 with heat indicies 105-110 with not a drop of rain for two weeks and even then it was only .14"! Had only .49" the entire month of July with not a drop in August.
Consistent watering at the original plant crown allowed me to gain 98.6 pounds last week alone. I'll take this over our Canadian friends problem of temps in the 40's. Anyone interested in seeing an interesting system to water the main plant origin without risk of burning the leaves or watering the weeds email me and I'll send a word document picture of how to conserve water and still provide plenty of water. My pumpkin on the 845 has slowed to about 12 lbs per day, hope it springs back and this is not a marker of its rapid growth decline. Nervous in CT
