Just wunderin if anyone feels like everything is going as good as they anticipated? My expectations where Huge!! When reality set's in and your pumpkins are growing are they better than last year? maybe yuh won't get the world champ, but when you walk out to work in your patch do you smile and say, Look what we did? All the bugs, the weeds, the firtilizer's. And then all day you want to go out and measure them just to make shure they grew again today?? Are they bigger than last year?? I know I have a personal best and I AM SMILEIN !! H-K-J <:-)

I've been playing around growing pumpkins for a few years but never decided to really do it until this year. This site gave me the incentive to learn all I could and do it as right as a rookie could. Although I figured out I wanted to do this too late to get good seed, I figured I'd do my best with commercial seed and see what I could do. I set a goal at the beginning of 100 lbs. Then upon reading and learning more I boosted my goal to 200. I am happy to say with the support of this site and all the people on it who have offered so much info, I exceeded my initial goal of 100 lbs today, and the best part of the growing season is upon us. Yeah, I'm very happy with the year and if all continues as it is, I'll be as pleased as some of you all who grow the 500, 600 and 800 pounders.. Thanx guys for all your help!!

They say it doesn't weigh anything until it's at the fair or whatever it's destination and I have to agree. Like hooking a trophy fish and not landing it - all you have is a great story with no pictures. Knock on wood, despite temperatures near 100 all week and in extreme drought here in SE, Pa. I have had a rewarding week of 98.6 pounds gained on my best hopeful. She is 192 and well shaded from this blistering heat and nights in the upper 70's with 100% humidity. I've exceeded my last year's effort so I'm happy and would like to beat my personal best of 265 which I appear to be on track. I too have learned a ton at this site and appreciate everyone's good nature. I hope to give back what I have gotten.

In the hope of not jinxing (sp?) myself, this being my first yr with AG's and only my second yr growing pumpkins, I set a goal of 500lbs for myself. I am hapy to report taht I have a pumpkin that is 33 days old tomorrow, and I fully expect her to be near 350lbs when I measure tomorrow night. Without this pumpkin, im not sure if I would come close to 500lbs or not this yr. I have no other real keepers as of now. But I must say ive learned alot and am having a blast. I have forced myself not to measure today, and it was tough!!!!! I go on vacation next weekend, and won't see my pumpkin for 3 days. That makes me nervious, but I will be able to look and notice the size change I HOPE!!! This is really fun and next yr I hope will be even better. Good luck to everyone!!!!!! Mike

Way to go mike, I think there should be at least 6 or 7 800 lbs pluss fruits out of my patch this season, I thought last year was good but it seams that everything is falling toghter very nicely. I don't know if i will break 1000 lb this year but this will be my best shot at it that I have ever had. Hope everything is going good for everyone else best of luck to everyone mark

Well I be lying if I said I'm near where I thought I'd be. Second year grower and worked all winter on the garden to get it ready. Still way to many rookie mistakes...but I thought a 200 lber was possible in the small patch. But that's okay will get em next year when I can grow a full size plant. It will take some time to turn this clay into soil but having a blast learning everything I can so when my time comes I'll be ready...Everyone here has been great putting up with all the newbie questions. Good luck to ya all..go get it Mark Grow em BIG! chuck

I'm a newbie as well with a very small patch on the side of my house - so my expectations were pretty low. Just hoping for the biggest one on the block. I have one fruit on and it's already a good 50-60lbs growing 2" a day. You know, it's already bigger than anything I've ever grown and I be happy with that at the end of the season. But, I have come to realize that I am eiher going to have a really big pumpkin (200lb+) or no pumpkin ( Just too many things to go wrong before October). thats the real kicker.
Having fun anyway - And if all goes bad I'll still have the pictures and next year.

My goal was to grow one 500 lbs this year. According to the measurements, I should have one that hit 500 lbs yesterday (day 38). Another is at 400 or more, and gaining 130lbs every 5 days. I'm having fun doing this. I enjoy the people on BP.Com. Good luck to all.

I just sold my house and patch with two nice fruit on the vine I entered a clause in the contract that says I get to harvest the pumpkins for the Spokane Interstate Fair (5 days after I have to be out). The buyers seem nice enough but I am only holding out hope for seeds from them. If my growth rate continues and my weight gains from the last two seasons hold true I should harvest a 750# pumpkin for the fair which would be a new personal best and a County record. Not to worry about selling the house and patch we just bought a 1909 seven acre mini farm in the Spokane valley on the Spokane river. More land = more pumpkins!

Congrats Gads. How far is the Spokane fair from you now? When is the fair?
Hope you get an 800 pounder.
This is my 1st year & I'm hoping for a 300+ pounder (only 200 lbs to go!!) Wish me Luck! BP.COM is the Best! Cheers - Ceis
P.S. Steveo I know exactly how you feel. I'm wondering how long the ride will last. Regardless I'm enjoying myself.
