When you decide it's a keeper I would do the shade although from what I've read here some of the guys do both early, the bleach is used to remove any disease that might be on the new pumpkin its a ten percent solution like you use on your cutting tools when pruning.

So if it's a keeper you bleach it to disinfect? At what rate per gallon of water??

The bleach solution is 10% like it says above...1 part bleach to 10 parts water...
