My biggest fruit, mervin, split today at the blossom end. It was a small half inch split that went to the cavity. I took a small fruit from the plant and sliced out a small pice of fruit to stick into that hole and then I sealed it with the pumpkin sap. it is ok for now....i am going to head out to the hardware store for some caulk or silicon or something of that nature and seal that up for good.......anyone have any suggestions on how else to treat this??? the fruit is only 30 days old, est 370 lbs....i have to atleast mature the seeds. believe the split has only been there, at the most, 6 hours. Any more help or info would be appreciated!

the split did get longer and wider as of this morning, so the pumpkin is still growing....the silicone seal on it is keeping the air from entering the cavity however....i hope to mature the seeds, need the fruit to stay on for 15 more days for this to be possible.

I took an elastic band used to seal young trees after engrafting when I had the first vine split. It will expand up to 800% as long as the vine or the stem grows and fall off after a few months. It helped me a lot to keep the damaged vines. Have it in my diary from June 17th. My two biggest and only pumpkins are growing on these. Might help you to rescue your stem also, good luck!

If it continues to grow it will split further. I had the exact same problem. I packed the wound with sulfer paste. each day it split a little more. I severed the entire vine at the hill because the pumpkin was receiving too much energy. It's doing fine now. Of course it will not get any further growth but I just want to get it to maturity. I have done good vine-work from the beginning, therefore the roots from each leaf axil sustain life to the fruit but not enough energy to further split it.
