If you have never tried these little ornamental gourds, you are missing out. They are the cutest little things. I picked up one plant last fall and let it turn to a nice hard gourd. Broke it open and found four seeds that looked like they would grow. Now I have harvested over 300+ of these little babies and they just keep coming. I pick about 100 a week. The vines are really agressive, but could be staked up onto a fence, trellis etc. I have started to sell them at the local farmers market and they seem to love to see them, saying " We thought you could only get those during the fall". at 50 cens a pop, I will keep growing them. I might could afford a good pumpkin tarp with the money from them. Would like to hear your stories with these little ornamentals.

My wifes been bugging me to grow some of those. How big a trellis would I need for a plant or two?

White feathers, I don't mean to be rude but it seems to me that you are trying to advertise on this site. Not what BP.com is about. Try trading your seeds for AG seeds. You might get a bite or two.

Pappy, Your not rude, you have just got me wrong. Just excited about this stuff. Not selling them here or the seeds. Selling them at the local farmers market in town where I sell other surplus from the garden. Things like Yellow and scalloped squash. Zucchini bread, muskadines and jellies, cantalope and these little gourds. Just telling a story about it.
I grew them on the ground, and they are taking over. I would use one or two plants max unless you want a lot of the gourds. I think a 4' to 5'tall by 10' long would be enough. They tend to grow on the leading edege of the vines, so the older vines will not produce.
I like seeing the kids come up to the truck and ask mommy or daddy, can they touch one of the little warted pear gourds. I usually give it to them to have. They are so excited, you would have thought I gave them a play station.

Pappy, Do you still have Fatback or is it pumpkin pie now? I wonder what the local folk think when you drive around with it in the back of the truck. I am sure they take a double look.

Yes Jared, I still have Fatback, but she is compost now. Slowly breaking down. I extracted her seed and I am happy!!! Most questions were, Is it real? What did you feed it? What will you do with it? You want to sell it? Can I have my pic taken with it? Probably caused accidents! Big Pumpkin for this neck of the woods.

Do the gourds resemble Carl Malden's nose?
