Looking for advice on what to do with the extra vines that grow off the main and laterals. I have three vines, with one pumpkin on each. They are in the 100's now, but keep getting longer and longer vines off the main and side shoots that start having little pumpkins. I have been pinching off the little marble pumpkins and all the blooms, but am I to leave all these extra vines all over the place or just the main one that feeds the large pumpkins. Also, how do you know when it stops growing and when to pick them? Thanks, Jared

OKay, what if I have to pick the large pumpkin this week. Would I still use the vine that may have a small marble pumpkin on it and try giving it all the energy now that the large pumpkin is gone? or trash the whole vine and start from seed another new vine. We hear in Georgia will not get a frost until mid oct or late oct. ?? Thanks, Jared

Jared,,if you are gonna pick,,I wouldnt pick if it were me,,,I'd get another on the vine and let it grow...Maybe one you want to pick will kick in again...I think maybe if you dead head the vines,,you might get some more growth...Its worth a shot,,deadheading means cutting tips of vines and burying them,,this will give more energy to your pkin....and less enegry into producing more vine...

Okay, was not sure what to do. So the # of leaves is not what we are looking for is it? How far from the pumpkin do you dead head and would you let another pumpkin go on the vine with the one large one I have already? Thanks, Jared
