Whats a good stem lenght on a pumpkin you plan on keeping to grow? Can you tell by the time a pumpkin is the size of a basketball? I've heard so much about a short stem and a long stem. So how can you tell how long the stem will be

If a Pumpkin is say the size of a basketball, how long should the stem be to consider if you should keep it or not? 2,3,4,5,6 inches???

I'd suggest looking through some grower diaries and
pumpkin and stem lenght - it would give you some
thing to compare yours too.

The stem should be long enough to extend from the vine, and touch the pumpkin. Anything less is not acceptable. How long are your legs? Do they reach the ground?
