Is there anyone out there in pumpkinland who competes at the Half Moon Bay Pumpkinfest? I would get a kick out of following your progress on this site, and then getting to see the final results in October. That's the only weigh-off I will probably be able to make it to. (Four kids make traveling rough....) :-) PVZ

I read your reply to my question on shading. I would love to compete but have to see if I qualify. i am not as experienced as many. i do not have a number or a name for the lineage of my plants. I have thre AG plants growing with a total of six well developed fruit. My largest right now is 1o plus feet from the vine and i estimate at well over a hundred pounds. I worked for a time in San Jose off Berryessa. Let's talk through the season and maybe meet in Half Moon Bay. Maybe, you can come up to Elk Grove or we could meet half way at Nut Tree. Are they still doing it at Nut Tree?

There is no longer a contest at the Nut Tree. Elk Grove is the official site ( Great Pumpkin Commonwealth) Oct. 5 & 6th. Contact Elk Grove Park and Rec. (916) 658-3917. There is a smaller weigh off at Sacramento State Fair Sun. Sept. 1, 2002.

Early this year ( this is my 2nd year), I dreamt of going to compete in the Halfmoon Bay Pumkinfest but due to inexperience, I encountered many problems in my first month. I am still hoping though for a miracle and wisdom from here on.
