This year again I'm scourged with another wheel of a pumpkin(short from stem to blossom, but with a large circumfrence). How do you keep these things from falling back onto the stem? I had to cut a big one last year and I've got two this year that seem to be leaning back on to the stem. Another 100 pounds and I'm afraid it is going to tip over again. How do I prevent this?

I lift the vine where the stem attaches and put styrofoam under it.

Sorry, no experience with that situation. But I would like to have a couple of those seeds to cross with mine. Maybe we could swap some.

Brain I had one of these a couple of years ago and I ended up digging in front and under the pumpkin to keep it from falling back on the stem. It was a late season start and ended up at 495lbs and did not fall over.

Brian, My 540 fruit was like that, I did as Stan said, with the exception that I put the styrofoam under the stem end of the fruit, and not under the vine, and it worked very well.

Like many others I use the styrofoam method. I have one that not only is beach ball round but my plants are on a hill so it naturally wants to roll down. In addition to the styrofoam I put either round rocks or tennis balls hear the stem end to discourage it from rocking or in my case rolling back onto its own stem.
