If you Snap the Main, about 4 feet past your Pumpkin you have set, is it going to grow a big Pumpkin or should you start a new Pumpkin on a Secondary? or is it to late to start a pumpkin on the Secondary?

Pumpkinbrat: I wouldent hesitate to cut the vine directly past a fruit if i ran into a tight vine problem! You can grow a megga pumpkin without any vine past the fruit.John G

Timely post, PB, one of my plants was neglected (sorry, just got busy!) and one of the mains wound up under a fruit, we decided to try cutting the vine right past the stem (like an inch) and see if it would go on growing. So far it has, although doubtful it will be a monster (for other reasons). Sounds like it will work, thanks Scott & John...

You should bury the end of the vine after cutting it. Scott, four inches?!? It must have been hanging in the wind!

Hey Farmer Scott - How far out was the fruit ? I am in a pretty similar situation as my main was 'toasted' a couple of weeks ago in the heat. I have a fruit at the end of the main about 10 feet out.
Ken - yes, it must have been hangin in the wind as this is what mine is currently doing. Cheers - Ceis

Thanks - I might be out of Luck on this female any ways. The wife and I had an overnight on Saturday & I might have missed the pollenation window of opportunity. We got back at 11:30 a.m. and it was already closing up - might have been the heat as it got close to 90 yesterday. Will have to wait and see what happens. Still hoping for the best. Thanks & grow 'em BIG, Ceis
