I have sooo many questions, I guess I'm still learning. I have two pumpkins on the main vine growing, 38 circ. and 17 inch circ. The first is a week older. How long can I keep two pumpkins on the vine before chosing? My fear is getting powdery mildew cause it happened last year and killed my plant. I'm thinking the earlier pumpkin is better because it gives me more time to grow if something does happen later. Anyway, the second pumpkin is growing just slightly faster, but I looked at circ. of different growers and many slower growing ones in the beginning were better than faster later on. Sounds like a crap shoot to me. Any suggestions would help and know that both pumpkins are on good spots of the vine. thanks.

Jim, How far out down the main vine are they growing? How far apart are the pumpkins? In one scenerio, the sooner the better. In another, the later the better! There just aren't any guarantees growing the Atlantic Giants! In the next week, you might have a bacterial wilt wipe out the entire plant and your choice would be meaningless. Then again, you might have one "blow up" on you, and you would be glad that you waited. I had to choose to cut off a fruit with a 67" circ. last night. Now that was painfull!

my two pumpkins are about 2.5 to 3 feet bewteen each other on opposite sides. The first is 14.5 ft on the main vine and the second around 17 ft. I am using fish and seawed as a foliar feed this year for the first time, hope it keeps away the powedery mildew. thanks, Jim
