What would you consider a "good rate" of growing concerning circum. of the fruit / inch per day? Should make it easier to cull the right fruits.

Hey floh, go to the links page here and click "Mallorn Pumpkin List Archives" And check the posts there. There is discussion on that subject for 10 day, 20 day and 30 day circumferences.

Gordon, that "762 Neuville" sure is close to Fatback but I don't think I can go 70 days in Ga. What is your opinion? Thanks

Pappy, Pappy, Pappy... Hey in your wildest dreams when those seeds first pop up...Did you even dream of what you got!! I love a hungry guy but that's starving....pushing seventy days is possible in Ga, You need to build an igloo the size of the Ice Palace with indoor grow lights and fans... It'll keep the beer cold and a great place for a party...go get em....lol

Pappy- I don't know ???? history is the best teacher and there isn't to much in Georgia... I might be able to hook you up with a florida grower. if you are interested ? Is it still growing ? if it was mine and it was still growing i'd leave it on till it stopped.

Al Eaton told me one time that you want 20" by 10 days, 60 inches in 20 days then AT LEAST 100" by 30 days if you want to have something nice in October.

pappy, my 762 did have measurements very close to Fatback. The 762 only grew for about 60-65 days as the fruit slowed considerably/nearly stopped in very early september when it cooled off to highs in the 60's lows in the upper 30's....i squeezed out a couple more inches and that was it. Was a very nice consistant growing fruit. not too fast or too slow. hope you can squeeze out some more lbs, and possibly hit 650?!?! Best of LUck!!!

Please clear this up, when one talks about circumference do they mean...
a)over the top, side to side + b) (from the ground to the other side on the ground) b)over the top, stem to blossom (from ground on blossom end to ground on stem end) c)from blossom end to stem end (actually (top or bottom of the stem???) d)circumference around the pumpkin from stem end to blossom end and back again.
Darby wanted to know this as well so he can measure for growth rate if he gets one pollinated this year so he doesn't show up again at the weigh-offs with an unpollinated pumpkin...
Thanks TTYL Ernie

I measured from top of the stem around the fruit parallel to the ground ending up beneath the blossom end. Fruit is very round this time, hope I did it right. Basing on that measurement, I have 40" on my Eisenhaur plant crossed with the Deary plant after 18 days. Did 2.5" today. Should be 70 days more to go, official german weigh-off is October 6th.

So Flohberger you only measured half the fruit on one side from stem to blossom right???

That is how I understood the circumference measurement described in the how-to section. It´s not half the fruit, it was all around that way. Just using a tape close to the fruit shape, from right to left, starting at the blossom end over the stem back to the blossom end.

I thinks the heat in Moose Jaw has affected Ernie's I.Q. as well as his punkin! LOL!! Little does he know, I'm actually growing onions and painting them orange...he he he! He's got his math all mixed up too... Yer spposed to multiply the age of your mother-in-law, then add your own height and divided by your hat size and subtract the temperature at which punkins freeze solid. This will give an honest approximation of how much time you spent growing punkins this year! LOL!

Ok Darby now ya've gone to far, say what ya will 'bout my IQ and I don't mind be called dumm, but ya leave my mother-in-law outta this.
I was simpliy tr'in to figure out this rate thing, as when I measured it from blossom end to stem and back again it measured 192" and I believe that would put it around 1400lbs. after 48 from pollination.
I couldn't figure that one out as it is only the size of a lemon, but it would beat your unpollinated one from last year both in size and weight. By the way since I think of it are ya suppose to use all the tape, I mean keep wrapp'in it around till ya run out of tape. If that's the case I'll have to buy some more tapes, as I'm sure this thing is going to keep gett'in bigger.

Owen:
Just to clear something up, us Western Canehdians pronounce it Can-eh-di-ans and spelled as above, and also note regardless of what is said, us Western Canehdians did not vote for Chrétien as number one we would never vote for anyone that talks out of the side of his face and two he was not on our ballot's so we have no idea how he got in power like he claims "His agenda/mandate was given to him at election time by the Canadian people who voted for him" Like I said he wasn't on my ballot.
Was he on your ballot Darby or Smitty...
Us Canehdians would have prefered voting for Red Green...
Oh ya in keeping with this post I noticed my tape was glued at about the 70" mark and continued on so to solve my problem from earlier I simply glued another tape at the 192" mark so now I have one that measures up to 381", had to change all the numbers though my daughter gave me one of her crayons to use as I couldn't find my marker, I hope it is water proof.

Ernie,
I bought a 100' fiberglass tape a few years back.Works great! Don't think you'll ever need glue with it!
