I have a pumpkin that is slightly smaller than a basketball. I was just wondering if I should cut the tendtils off the bottom of the vine to releive stress on the vine near the pumpkin. Is it too early?

Take the tendrils off if they're causing any problems at all. See bruiser's diary entry.

if it is a pumpkin that you plan on keeping- then you'll eventually want to cut off leaf also- to avoid it interfering with (scratching) the pumpkin.
