Colonan: there should not be any problems as long as there has not been anything harmful added to the sand. Watermelons are best grown in sandy ground along with many other vegetables. The only bad thing about sand is it drains the water off very quickly,, but this is a good thing sometimes also because if it comes a rain with a huge amount of water then it will not cause a lot of diseases that other soils cause from keeping water around the fruit and causing diseases such as mold.
