My plant just set pumpkins, my question is my main vine, about 3 feet out it has some brownish /white streaks on it. Wish I had a pic to give you, but I don't. Some of them seem to indent in the vine just slightly. The vine seems strong and healthy and the pumpkins and plant is healthy and growing great too. I'm in southern california, is there such a thing as vine rot and does this sound like it? The part of the vine where this is is not buried under dirt, I do use misters though. Should I put anything on these areas or is it just a normal part of the vine? Thanks, Jim

upon further inspection, the vine looks kind of ratty here, it's very hard, not soft at all. Almost looks like it's just hardening up. Has some light green color too. just thought i would explain it more.

It never hurts to dust the brown area with a little Sulfer or Captan if you're worried. You need to get hold of a camera or scanner, one picture is worth....

And yes, vines do rot in California. Especially if they are buried, they turn to mush. Your's has harden up though, that is good.

Jim, my stumps are "maturing" and getting a rough hardend look, also the vine is marbled orange/green. I think Wes offers great advice, sprinkle/spray a little fungicide on it for extra protection. I would also try to shade and keep the stump dry especially if you have been over watering to reduce leaf wilt. Best wishes, Gad's...........
