ok, im taking german in high school but i can pick up what they're basically saying. It says that its the online center for Europe's big Pumpkins growers (over 100kgs). i also found interesting that it mentioned that even though the hobby is done a lot in the US and Canada, it is/will be more popular in Europe. note that they said they "found" their information on the web from the US and Canada Sites. sounds like a little bit of copy, translate, edit some, paste, to me

Google can translate the site. I read some of the translated text. Interesting to see how the rest of the world regards the hobby.

they are trying their best to explain the ins and outs of AG growing in the states and Canada. I did find a contact email address and have just sent off a message asking if they have a weigh-off here in Germany that I could go to. Didn't expect that, would be really neat. of course there is that eternal optimism again, gotta grow a big honkin' one first!!!....LMAO...owen

bigpumpkins.de is the site from Alex, a guy living a few miles away from me. He is a professional pumpkin grower with 250.000 plants (commercial sorts). It´s his first time growing AG´s this year. He has about 15 AG´s outside and around 10 inside his greenhouse. As you can imagine that´s a lot of work for him. Alex told me yesterday that he has the first fruits going and many others will be open pollinated due to this big amount of plants. I helped him to install his webcam, you can see his outside patch with 6 plants running. The descriptions on the site are background information about growing AG´s like here on BP. Alex was of course inspired by BP.com and launched his site in March. It´s still for insiders because the hobby is almost unknown over here. I will visit him this month and take some pictures.

...maybe this year we can take some photos on our own..) Hi Alex, nice to meet you back where it all comes from...guess Owen contacted you for a german weigh-off. We should think about that next time. By the way - pumpkinmania has already reached our country. Saw a special pumpkin seed section in a big garden store today, 12 different sorts (Howard Dill among them), along with books and other stuff. A little late in the year, but early enough to prepare the 2003 season...
