Who wants to tell him...KD it's an old wives tale. No truth to it at all. Do a site lookup on milk and read all the posts...Manure, Leaves, More manure, more leaves, TLC and if your like me...still won't get one but it's a lot of fun for everyone else to watch cha!!! Chuck

I REFUSE to answer the milk question again, and claim the fifth! I vow also to refrain from telling anyone else that I grow giant pumpkins , for fear that the MILK question will soon rear it's ugly head! (It happened again today!)

i dont mind so much people asking (and they ask alot) but I really dont care for the opinionated ones that insist this is what i have to do when they have never grown anything. i usually get the pushy ones when im up north...wonder why that is;)

I know the milk idea is just a "urban legend", but aren't a few of us giving our pumpkins/squash calcium baths?? I know Dave Stelts did & I'm also doing the same this year........Paul

The calcium bath is chelated calcium diluted down & used as a spray & also soaked into towels & placed directly unto the fruit. In theory it helps build thicker walls thus producing heavier fruit. And I do believe it will work.

well, i believe i may have found out who we can blame for this. i was told just the other day (by a non-grower) that there is an old book by laura ingals wilder (sp?) in which it tells of a farmer growing a giant pumpkin by using milk into the vine. i haven't read it, but i may be able to find out more. anyone else know about this?

KD don't take any of this personally. It's a way of blowing off steam after all the work done with the garden etc. to get it right. If you did the look up on milk I'm sure you've seen the same response to everyone. Trust these guys they won't steer ya wrong. If your really interested in growing AG pumpkins the first must is Langevins books 1 and 2 on "How to grow world class punpkins" . the great books! best of luck Chuck. PS theres still time before Ya get hooked on this hobby. After ya plant one theres not much hope.
