What is the connection between the amount of lobes versus the size of the pumpkin you can grow. It's obvious that everyone seems to want as many lobes as they can get when pollinating, but does that usually mean a bigger fruit??? There seems to have been some biggies grown on 4 lobers.

More lobes does not mean bigger fruit. However, each lobe represents a pocket of seeds in the fruit. So more lobes means there is potential for more seeds. Of course the seeds account for a portion of the pumpkins weight too.

Ken is right. but I know a few heavy hitters that always perfer more lobes over fewer lobes, and will wait for one.
