I've been reading this board for over two years. Studying all of you great pumpkin wizard's knowledge - but too shy to interject. I love your pictures and ALL you advice. But now I need help.

I was adjusting my vines, (I swear I was being very careful) and I heard a painful crack. A break (waaahhh) appeared about 6 feet down the vine of my most vigorous AG plant. (Has three very fast growing side vines) I guess there's no band aids for pumpkin vines? I fashined one our of tiny bubble wrap and tape, then I admitted to myself "who's fooling who here?"

What do I do. just rip off the vine end (boo hoo) and pray? Will the plant make it? Should I treat the break with something? Will the side shoots grow better now?

PLEASE someone, give me some advice (a pep talk would work too!). I love my babies, and they're doing so great otherwise. I have a shadecloth tent over most of them and mist twice a day. THANKS in advance to any knight in shining armour out there who will help a damsel in distress.

I would start training the last 2ndry on the plant before the crack straight ahead ( like the main). Cut off the remaining wasted main after that 2ndary & apply some captan to the cut. Once it's dried & healed over ( appx. 5 days) bury it like you would your main vine & start running more 2ndries off the "new" main. I think you'll be happy with the results.........Paul

The laying on of hands might help too. My sister and her husband have a ministry in Wisc. and have regular prayers for my plants. Lord, heal this ailing plant! I had a near disaster a week ago when one of my vine tips was crushed and nearly broken off by heavy wind, but I nursed it back to full health.

Darby 2,

Have them say a few prayers for me, (and my AG's too!)

I drove around for two hours, home depot, OSH then finally a nursary. NOBODY had any captan. I just about started to cry. They say it isn't sold anymore and treated me like I was an idiot (in all three places). They sold me some Rootone with fungicide and said it will do the same thing. Will it??

I posted a picture of the break in the gallery. Any suggestions are appreciated. Wish I could get some Captan!
