about thee days ago it accured to me that this pumpkin plant in my back yard has a voice.. a very loud ,demanding voice..first it just wanted a little water and love, then maybe a glimpse at the sun and a shot of fish juice now and then..but thats not enough, now the thing works out all night, calls me while i'm sleeping to remind me we have a date in the morning, and don't forget to bring breakfast, lunch, dinner and a few snacks in between..oh and not to mention a drum of water to wash it all down..this probably should be on the new growers board...

John, I felt bad last night after the race cause I hadn't go out to tuck them before dark. So I went out with the flashlight just to make sure everyone was ok. I hear the voices too buddy...

Funny story about hearing voices out in the patch. The first year i grew pumpkins I whore rubber sandles out in the patch and every time in measured the pumpkin I would hear this sound like a whale would make I thought I was loseing it. About two weeks later I went to the store with the sandles on bent over to a lower shelf to grab a 12 pack of beer and sure enough I heard the same sound . It was the water in the sandles making the sound. It seeams when your so intense in a hobby such as ares your mind starts to wonder. mark

I have some tiger salamanders that live naturally in the garden around the pumpkins, and they love bugs. They prefer the moist areas of the patch. You might want to look at a praying mantis as well, they will go after just about any pests in your garden specially aphids, squash bugs.

I'm amazed that our spouses put up with this hooby. (My second year). I'm lucky, I'm a writer and work in a studio at the house - so I can check my babies several times a day! I hear the voices too.

Yep the pumpkins up here in Canada talk as well, and it is funny you should mention it kilr but I was just doing that the other night (talking to my baby) something about a good drink and a little cocktail, I was thinking how funny it would be if the wife heard me she would stand there shake her head and say I'm nut's which has happened to many times this season. Gave me a good chuckle thinking about it. Then I heard the voice "How come you never talk to me that much." and of course I opened my mouth and said the first thing that came out..." I would if you performed like this does.

I just got my self out of the dog house from my last comments. When will I learn.

Well got to run,

Canadjian pumpkins are distinguished from their 'merican cousins, cuz they tend to say Eh? a lot instead of Huh? Just put yer ear close to the ground and whisper something unintelligible to them.
