This is my second year growing, last year my pumpkin took off like a rocket, 27 inchees at 10 days, this year my best prospect is 18 and a half inches circ. at 10 days. I'm disappointed at how slow it is. My plant has better genetics this year. Do still have a hot at over 500 lbs with such slow growth in the beginning? Most of the sheets I have seen say you should be between 23 and 28 inches at this time. I'm hoping that this slo growth is normal with some big ones too. Any opinions or facts from personal experience would be great, thanks, Jim

Im about 250 miles to the north of you. All of my plants when they have come up, and then set out sat for about 12 days before they started to grow. Now they are growing from 8 to 10 inches aday. Also we have had very hot weather up here too. I think that has slowed them down some. Greg

Guys, do fans or misting help reduce the heat? I got a late start this year (my mom passed away - just about the only event that could delay my pumpkin fever). Thanks for a response.

misting does a couple of things.....since plants cant sweat when it gets hot, the act of water evaporating from leaf surfaces acts like the plant is sweating. this will reduce heat. also, for the brief period of time that the misters are on, the air will be cooled some.
