i was really thinking taday about the fact i have had cuc. bettles and squash bugs. i decided to ask my two neighbors if they had any of the problems i was having comparing zuccuni??1 plant out of three of my plants had died from squash bugs. my neighbors had zero holes and zero insects they used no sevin or any insecticides. i was thinking what do i do that they don't do i then i came to the conclusion that i use dog manure and they don't. does dog manure attract these insects becsuse of the soil after it is mixedor what is happening to attract these bugs . also with my leaves all wilted will my plant come back or should i just rip it out.
thanks ryan

AG's have a higer sugar content in the plant, making them "sweeter" to the bugs. That is why you get all the bugs and they don't. Tom Beachy

I think the doggie doo doo invites DEZEEZ (sp), and weakens the plant so it is more suseptable to insect invasions. I could be wrong, but at least compost the crap out of it for a few seasons. If it smells really bad don't throw it in the garden. Compost smells "sweet".

Doggee doo? I don't think so..... Unless you're running a dog kennel, how can you every get enough of it? It MUST be well rotted and composted, like any other manure before using. Let's see, there's a zoo near here that has the following critters: Polar bears, tigers, leopards, camels, rhinos, and a few others. I would go for any bovine that eats vegetation. There's also a couple of game ranches that raise elk, deer and bison But dog? no no! Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree!

hey Plump, don't listen to these crazy guys. How will you ever know if you don't try???? As a matter of fact, I have been throwing dog crap on my patch all yr. Tilled it in a few times, and still throw it on and plan to continue to throw it on. I don't have a kennel, or a large suply of it, just have 2.5 dogs and honestly its an easy and convinent place to pitch it. I have had NO bug problems this yr and in my opinion, my plants couldn't be better. Mike

how the hell do you have .5 of a dog? The reason that dogcrap is bad is because it's got a lot of bacteria in it. Tom

my wife runs a small kennel at the house, about thirty dogs plus we own 7.5 dogs and produce a 5 gal pail of waste per day and it goes into the dumpster..it can be composted but with the junk in dog foods and the risk of disease, and then there are dung beetles to contend with its best to kiss it goodbye..
