How long do you leave females covered after pollination?

I keep the male covered the night before I pollinate, and the female so it won't be pollinated by bees if it opens before I get up.Lol Then I pollinate, and I keep them covered until the female flower closes again. Hope this helps!! If not sorry, and there are other great growers to help you out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Good luck

I covered the male flower and female flower with my wifes knee high panti hose (sp?). I uncovered them both this morning at 6:30 am and they both were open. I pollenated the female, then used a garbage bag tie and tied the female flower shut. HAs worked for me. Good luck

I, too, use those thin sandwich ties to close the females.
At 6-7 days, Joel says to pick off the remnants of the flower to allow the end to dry better, reducing the chance of disease.

Wishing you complete pollination.....which is, in my book, more important than "Good Luck"! .....although some of that is handy to have as the season progresses!

Thanks for your input. Just saw that the females have problems to close if the bag is still attached. In my greenhouse if have some (unknown ebay) fruits from New Zealand that I need to hand-pollinate every morning. Flowers finally close after 2 days, and with some luck the fruits start to grow. I guess the remnants need to be closed to start the process.

Supposedly pollen can still pollinate individual eggs up to 6 days after pollination. So I guess keep the flowers closed that long.
