Hey Jeff, I had to measure three times to make sure. The weather here has been perfect for pumpkin growing. Mid 60s at night low 80s in the afternoon. Low humidity. Rains right when I need it. Now that i've said that, everything will probably go down the crapper! But I'm one happy camper! LOL!! Hint-- (Rabbit manure is the ticket)

uh oh!!! I further inspected Fatback just now and noticed a quarter inch hairline crack right next to the stem. Damn!! Does applying a captan paste come into the picture now? I guess that growth spurt caused it. Damn!!!

1/4 inch hairline crack next to stem (assuming on pkn) isnt bad...it will scab over and be "canteloping"....usually get many of these and they'll even ooze a bit of juice...not a problem. Its a problem when they get huge...and deep...and go into the cavity. You can however get huge deep ones that survive...I had my hand in one up to the last knuckles on my 4 fingers and it still didnt go into the cavity.(stem end is thickest). Those ones get pasted with Captan paste. The ones you talk of sem to be fine, just a sign of a kick-ass pumpkin !!!.............G

Whew!!! That makes me feel much, much better G! So you are saying just leave it alone for now? The only reason I caught it was because it had a tiny drop of "juice" on it

Leave it alone. It should be fine.....oh, and I think its time that you limit your solo trips to the patch. With a plant like that you might wanna use the buddy system....seems kinda aggressive to me...you never know....LOL....

brian last year my 455 really started to grow after it hit 350 so watch out you could have a state record on your hands in 10 or so days If the weather keeps up for you. I think that both plants are going to through pumpkins.i'm going to go out on a limb if your stem holds up you will break 700 if your temps don't go over 100 to many times in the next month. But last year we had a very warm july with most days over 95 and a few in the 100's so the plant can take the heat. Make sure you water enough keep your plants cool. prove me right brian

I planted early because of the climate down here. I just think the heat and humidity and direct sun makes it rough to go by northern US and southern Can. standards. If I can get a biggun' early I'll be overjoyed! If it is not recognized no problem to me. Personal satisfaction is key to me. Thanks Chuck!

Thanks Randy. I'm looking into both those weigh-offs but don't know if I can last that long. I have a friend that owns a feedstore (w/certified scales) who will at least weigh my pumpkins for me so I will know for sure how much these monsters weigh.I only have about 35 days left before harvest. Right G!! Ken? Matt?
