Scott,
I tried to send you a pix of my 723, but your mail server rejected it!

Scott,
The 723 Bobier that grew my 1096.8 in 2000 was not very aggressive and in fact it was my worst looking plant. Some of the first leaves on the main curled back towards the ground giving it a mutated look. Generally speaking, the leaves and vines were smaller than what I would call a normal size. The 723 that I grew last year was a little closer to normal, but still not what I would call an aggressive plant. Often, my most aggressive or best looking plants seem to produce my smallest fruit. My 723 this year again is my smallest plant and I'm not pulling it until October.. Joe P.

Mine is not very aggressive either. Nice looking plant, but thin vines, and such. Do have a few normal sized leaves though.

Sorry to hear that guys! I reckon that my seed sucked all the good genetics right out of your seed! My plant has "balls"! It is growing rapidly and throwing females nearly every day! Three pollinated already! Big vines, too!

I would have to say that this year mine is a slow poke,Then again we in N.H have not seen the sun as much as we'd like.Checked pics from last years 723 plant,my plant is less then half the size it was this time last year.I have yet too see a pumpkin on this years plant. At this rate i think i'd be happy with a late july pollination!the plant looks very healthy, but Slowwww!!John

My 723 seems to be growing very well. Main ~ 9' long, largest leaves~ 19", good color and agressive growth of all vines. No female flower yet.

John G and Joe P,
Could you guys make a short post on plant size, and pruning traits of your big 723's? I am debating going with every other secondary on mine, and was wondering how you guys did it.

Tom,
The 723 Bobier in my patch was grown in a 900 sq.ft. area. All of my plants are grown in the Christmas tree shape and I have never trimmed off any secondaries. The main was terminated at 31 feet and the secondaries were terminated at 15 feet. All the tertiaries were cut off and all the other vines left on the plant were buried...Joe P.

Thanks Joe, reason I asked is because some plants prefer to have big leaves, and others do not for some reason. Here on our farm/patch, a lot of the Canadian seeds prefer small leaves, no matter how much room I give each leaf, and the Ohio seeds have huge leaves and plants. good info to know...thanks Joe.

Tom :
Last years plant was also grown in a xmass tree pattern, plant size was 550 to 600 sq/ft.My main was also terminated at 30 to 32 ft ,about 14 ft beyond the fruit.secondaries were 22 to 30 ft and deadheaded at the patchs border.Last vine deadheaded (very long secondaries)august 5th.I spaced my vines 2 ft to 30 inchs apart.I did cut secondaries not every other one ,but let 2 or 3 grow in a row and cut one, then let two more grow then cut one and so on.Leafs got huge, some over 28".Only had 7 vines on each side of the plant. It was very easy to maintain the plant and walk inbetween to spray and bury, etc.John

I'm growing my 723 as a flag. It was the last seed to germinate a full week after the others were up. It has since caught up to the 764 Mombert which is the other side of the flag with 2° vines even larger, although one of those has developed as a double vine. No open flowers yet on this plant, but I'll be pollinating before the first, possibly by the end of the week. I grew a 723 last year as well and it was not as aggressive a grower as this one. I expect bigger and better this year. It has some very large leaves, bigger than any of the others in the patch, although I haven't measured them I would say they are better than two feet across.
