Hello all you pumpkin growers out there. I was just wondering, I have never done this before and was hoping to get some insight. We do not have maple leaves here in Colorado and I was wondering if Oak or Aspen leaves. Thank you for your replies and "grow 'em big". Please suggest other leaves that have worked for you besides maple because I have not seen any maple leaves here, and if so, tell me how much these leaves how helped you to improve your soil texture and richness. Steve

I would hold off on the oak leaves. They have a natural acid in them. They could stunt the growth of your pumpkin plants if they are not composted really good. The aspen leaves would be fine. Also if you have any poplar , cottonwood leaves , leaves from fruit trees would be good too. My grandparents lived in Colorado they had wild plum trees growing along a creek . They used the leaves from them all of the time in thier gardens

If you have a Master Garden site for your state go there and you can find more info on how much to use in a compost pile.
