My 644 went flat at about 3 foot and then went double vine. I pinched off all the leaders of the main as well as the first few secondaries back to the first signs of mutation, and now WOW I have this HUGE new main that is PERFECT. the plant actually blew up the vine where I pinched it back! I don't think I lost to much time as the plant was sort of languishing prior to the pruneing job. check out my new photo submissions with the JAMCAM!!!

If it were my pant, I would go with the first normal vine I saw as my main, and cut all the flat vining stuff off. That is definitely a flatvine. Tom Beachy

I agree with Tom....a flat vine. They do not always become flat right out of the ground, however. You're going to have to watch it closely to choose the "correct" main.

Yo Ken, That came up flat and wide...It looks very confused. I think you're gonna need a A.G.B.P.H.T.... see kilr's post.. Was that planted direct or from peat pot. If that was a peat pot was it flat already? or happen after you planted it. My 625 looks like it would go round if it was warm. I'm starting to think the weather has something to do with flattening out the vines. I don't remember this many posts last year about the subject.

Okay I'm there. G you called it. The new growth has split, double everything. everything rolling out at the end is doubled. Gads did you pinch off both of the tips where the split was or keep one as the primary. I glad it finally to do something. Now just did a site search on double vines and other then reporting them not clear on the best thing to do. Remember I only have one plant in so would like to go with it. would aprreciate any links that broach this subject. hopefully with pictures and a how to section. Not very bright here in Jersey unless it's tomatoes!!! won't do anything till I hear from you all. Thanks Chuck. Camera should be back from the shop next week would love to document this for us new guys!

To all of you who decided not to cut flat or double vines: Try to to adjust it flat on the ground otherwise the vine will be become a vane. Learned this lesson last weekend. It´s very nonelastic and tends to split on its sides. Once flat on the ground and buried, I hope the worst trouble is over.
