I cant believe the weather in the northeast. I was making excellent headway last week and now its like early spring and my cloches are off now. Id say Im at least 3 weeks behind where I should be. Very frustrated grower in CT. David

Same crap here in the midwest. A little perk for everyone last year my first pollination was July 16th, and by July 22, the fruit measured 461. late sets don't neccessarily mean small fruit. Just keep plugging away.

TOM on july 16th how long was the vine on that plant?..total length, and how far out was the fruit set?I look at Jeff and Pappy's diaries, and see those massive plants..I guess my real question is how big does the plant have to be to be able to pollinate..mid july is coming right up and my plants are'nt very big..john

Same here in jersey. The three warm days and it was starting to grow now stopped again. Just came in from outside man it's cold and rainy. If this was a warm rain it be putting on. Way behind last year. Lobsta they start throwing flowers when it get warm. but need more then three days. Very frustrating and now looks like the vine is flattening again. started to round out in the heat. Oh well!

51 degrees, and cold misty rain here in Mid-Michigan.
Only one plant has germinated so far, and that is my son's
378 Huffer. ( It's starting to vine out now) If I dont get some nice weather, and germination pretty soon, he's gonna kick my butt this year!!

Hey Cuz, If your son's 378 kicks your butt don't take it to heart. All Huffer's have a recessive gene that LOVES to fight....LOL

Hey Huff...you mentioned in your diary "butt ugly squmpkin" referring to the 378Huffer...I gather "butt ugly" is a DOMINANT gene that all Huffer's have?........LOL....bobbing and weaving and WAY out of reach in Massapequa.....G !
oops !, until July anyway.......lol

Hey G, the 353 was the butt ugly one. The 378 was a very nice ORANGE fruit. And the ugly isn't exactly a dominant gene as much as it is a side effect of the recessive gene that loves to fight. When my 4 year old son asked me why my front row of teeth was a little cockeyed, I told him it was a result of my big mouth , a lot of beer & someone else's baseball bat. His response "" daddy I don't want to ever do that""......And no need to "bob & weave" I don't box...LOL
