Just wondering if people are starting to see any bugs on their plants yet. I'm currently growing in Vermont and am trying to predict when they're going to hit.

Cuke beetles showed up a few days ago in my Jack o'Lantern patch, but none in my 3 AG patches. My jacko plants had only seed leaves, but there were 8-15 cuke beetles on each plant! Also spotted first squash bug of the season today.(Looked young and skinny). Won't be long before japanese beetles and SVB's are out. Looks like a bad year for unwanted insects because of the mild winter.

Overwelmed by Cuke beetles here.20-30 per plant. I think they were waiting for my transplants. They were on them the next morning. Dusted them and 1/2 acre of other pumpkin sprouts. I won this battle by the war on the Cuke beetles not over....Tom

Tons of white flys but I think they're slowing down. Got one today I've never seen before. Shaped like a huge lady bug. But is white, black brown striped and orange at the shoulders and head. Squashed him and brought him in to see if anyone could identify it. Nobody yet.

Alexdad,
Sounds like you may have a potato bug. Seeing a picture would help.

None of any consequences yet, they're planning their attack. We should do the same.

In my patch in the world, I get pumpkin bugs. They are about a quarter inch long and are dark brown with orange horizontal stripes on them. Don't know if they are harmful but always squish them when I see them on top of a leaf.

yo ken, Thanks man. Pick on alun's relatives week heh?Anyway send the starlings back...they are the good guys..they don't eat seeds or vegetation. When the decend on my patch they come in their hundreds and they eat every aphid, catterpillar, beetle, grub and worm and never harm the patch at all...OK so I lose a few worms..but the patch has been swept clean. But they only come a few days of the year..must be their vacation. I'll send something else over....now what have I got...lemme see..oh yeah a couple pumpkin eating fruit bats. Their on the way

Kilr, You got it. Looked them up online, first pictures I saw were close but not quite right kept clicking through and there it was, the exact one, Never seen one before. They obviously come in different colors and variations in shape. But the stiping is the same. Thanks for the point in the right direction.

So far this year I've had turtles, armadillos, water-mocassins, salamanders, cutworms, squash bugs,& aphids. I'm afraid to go into my garden. It's almost as dangerous as living in New York.

One good thing can be said about the driest winter in S. Cal. history is that there are NO bugs this year. Normally cuke beetles, aphids, white flies and hornworms would be worken the garden by now. Only insects that's shown up this year is a few flies. For the record, we had a whooping 4.5 inches of rain since last July 1. The dry hills have caused all the rabbits for miles around to come to my yard. They are easy to control with temporary fences and spread free fertilizer while they mow the lawns.
