Well,,,I thought the 1062 had 2 pkins set,,,I found out yesterday they are starting to rot from the tail end(aborting?)???Now,,I go to measure my 455 this morning,,it's been gaining 10 pounds a day,,,but to my surprise,,the tail on it appears to be rotting also..Is this an attempt to abort,,or have I been keeping the plant to wet?I have been closing all blooms before and after pollination...The 455 tail appears to be drooping somewhat..I will post a pic of the tail this morning..What have I done wrong?(Tears starting to come from eyes)LOL,,I really thought I had it going on...I have tried so hard this year,,only other 455 I have a chance on is located on a secondary...I really didnt want to try a secondary,,but it appears it will be the only chance I will have,as I'm running out of room...Would some of you BIG HITTERS please tell me where I went astray?G,,you said you use captan on your tails,,where can I buy captan?I've looked all over down here.......Thanks in advance....Jeff

JEFF.:your pumpkins should have a real glossey shine to the skin,if their shiney yellow,or green, their not aborting, sounds like you might have some type of rot going on,don't know how bad they are ,but i'd go out and get some ...Bonide_Caption-50%wp,or garden sulfer comes in 5 lb bags at your local garden supply shop.Apply it by dusting the problem areas with a small paint brush,i use a 1" cheap brush there about 50 cents each in the paint dept.8oz of Captions should run about 6 to 8 bucks and sulfer the same.Hope this helped.Post a Pic if you can.John

when you say "tail end" do you mean in the fruit or the thing that sticks out where the blossom used to be? There will usually be a short stem on the blossum end where the flower was that will fall off eventually. The problem is if the rot is in the flesh of the fruit.

Jeff, It doesn't look bad. Just get some captan on it and it will dry right up. As John G pointed out, keep the fruit dry by getting a cover over it.

Sevin will control the cuke beetles. Just mix according to package directions and apply at dusk. The next day you can have fun counting the dead beetles. If you apply during mid day you can kill bees and burn the leaves of your plant.

Jeff, nothing life threatening in the pic. Just keep it dry and dust it with captan or put on a paste made with captan. It's going to be just fine!

Jeff, what is shown in your picture is normal. It is just the "flower" drying up. You do not appear to have blossom end rot. The individual "fingers" that are turning brown are actually the segments of the flower that you pollinated (or the bees did) it looks fine. Really.

The part that worried me was not the star,,the actual tail which extends out the end of pkin..Last year the blossom end (tail),as I call it,as I recall stayed on,,the star portion fell off...The part that stayed on was hard,,this one is soft to the touch, not mushy. That was my concern...Glad I've gotton all this in put,,I feelmuch better....Thanks Again..

If it is going to rot then you will know soon enough. Let it ride for now, keep it dry and dusted if possible. We cant really tell exactly by photos but they do help. I would set up a small deskfan type deal and blow dry air on the nub during the day (nightime air is too moist). And for heavens sake...keep using that Neptunes harvest. A growth sprurt like that after adding a Fertilizer solution tells me your not watering enough or fertilizing enough for optimum growth. Remember that a happy plant fights disease better than a stressed plant. That said, Im going outside right now to dump a load of Neptunes on MY plants !!!....G
