Every time I transplant one of my young plants from the pot to the ground, less than 3 hours later it is gone.
What can I do to stop the animals?
Will bitter spray from the pet store work?

I've seen growers use "cages" of chicken wire or possibly one with even smaller holes if you have mice. I think TomMan has pics in his diary. He may be a good person to contact.

Oops sorry. It was Mike Nepereny from the AGGC. Look at his growers log at http://aggc.1wh.com/aggc_main.asp. I got confused because I was just looking at the IPGA website and pictures of Tom Beachys pumpkins.

Is Home Depot a good place to start?
There is no farm supply store within 30-335 miles of here, I live in the inner city, five minutes from downtown.

Correction: 335 is supposed to be 35.
Sorry.

I also use chickenwire svrichb, we get 18 inch tall and cut it into 14 foot pieces. That makes a nice circle. Then weave in about 6 stakes to support it. Very few animals have ever had the ambition to climb over it.

Well maybe I did hear you mention that somewhere....I thought I was just losing my mind (of course that could still be the case).
