I would like to get as much info. on flat main vines as passable. My 760 Patrick looks to be a flat liner . I read the other flat line info . on this site , but I would like to know more about it.Will a fruit still grow on a secondary as good as it would on a main. Is this a sign of selfing , will it carry on this characteristic , Should i let it grow , & any other info. you can supply would be very helpful to me. I will be putting a updated photo on soon. Thank you!!

I've had a couple that "flat lined" on me. A couple went back to normal after about 6' & the other one I clipped the main at a 2ndry & the secondary became the new main with no problem. But I wouldn't think it is a sign of selfing..........Paul

Dave Stelts 1053.5 was grown off a plant that flat vined. He just cut it, and took the next secondary and turned it into the main.

i've had many go strange on me (double, flat, and mutants). I saw your picture and it looks to be a typical double vine. my advice it to let it go a little longer to see if it stays double, or (even worse) goes flat [or ribbon, whichever you call them], or it could even fix itself by going back to a single vine or splitting into two seperate singles. if it takes care of the problem itself, then you're set. if not, and it stays double you could try some experimental surgery to turn a double into a single. If it goes flat, then just terminate it and go with a side vine.

I grew a 799 on a flat vine plant(Hester 850). I don't see why folks think it's a big negative. Just takes alittle more TLC than other plants. My flat vine tended to want to curl back on itself. The trick was to slightly dig the soil out in front of the vine as it grew and then stuff it in the trench and bury. Pumpkinpiper

Hoppy,
You've got one. My 726Eisenhaur HAD a flat main vine, (see pictures.) I only have one plant so there is no space for experimental vines. If you're going to terminate it and coax a secondary, do it while it's still small.

Now, how long should i wait to see if it will straighten out , and when and if i should try to split it or just chop it off and uses a secondary vine as a main .Or if it stays the same thickness as it is right now and not flatting out any more , should i let it ride out and try to make it work ,or do you think it will be just more problems than it is worth.
