The cold frozen tundra of WI (in may) beat the living hell out of my babies. I set them in the ground on May 8th, and that was about the time that winter decided to return. I did cover them under hot houses, but it may not have been enuf. So here i sit on May 30th with 7 plants that look like crap. scronny, scragly, puny leaves. No bigger than baseballs. Each at about the 2nd true leaf stage. The ground was just too cold for too long. Question is this- Have any of you growers been able to nurse plants like these back to normal??? Are they doomed for a season of stunted-ness??? Just waiting for these guys to bust out of their funk and jump into action, but it aint happening, even with two 85+ degree days. For the sake of my own sanity, please help me.

The soil temperatures need to be above 70° for optimum growth.

Joe don't worry bud I'm having some of the same problems here the plants are about 2 weeks behind last year hopefully the weather will continue as it has been for a better part of this week. We need alittle rain here everything is so dry. We had close to 2 inches over last weekend but with the temp's in the low to mid 80's and a light wind it sure dries everything out. best of luck mark

Joe, My plants were stunted by cold for a while. Then it warmed up and they're off. Now the problem is it's too hot. Yeaterday we hit 96. Today we're suppose to get to 97. Low humidity and a wind. Can't mist. Water dept won't let us because of the drought. What we need is to mix our climetes. A liitle cool from there and humidity and aliite heat for you there. Best of Luck! Kenny

mine are just now starting to bounce back from the cold. there is also another possible reason for slow growth, which i fell victim to (yet again). if you have a double vine, or just a double leaf joint, it will considerably slow the growth for a little bit expending a lot of energy into that extra growth for some reason.
