Has anyone had luck with a underground irrigation system?

I built my mounds within ten feet of my ditch. When the water is turned in it will wick to within four feet of my mounds. I have the soil turned up deep with trenches dug every foot to meet were the water wicking ends. I feel the closest one to the mound with 30 gals of water and fert. What Iam trying to do is train the roots to go were I want them to go. Hopefully the will run to the ditch. Giving me ten feet of main root. As the plant grows I will feel the next trench then the next. I dont no if this will work but from what I have seen of other plants and trees the roots will go hunting for water or they will die. So Iam given them the water just makin them reach for it.

I took an 8 foot piece of black plastic water pipe, 1-1/2" stuff, and made my own perforated pipe by drilling holes in it Then I formed the pipe into a loop with a t-connection for the upright that protrudes above ground. This servers as the 'watering hole'. The whole thing is at the base of the hill, about 24 inches down and covered with drainage cloth. I left the center open for deep root growth, The whole thing seems to work very well, we'll know more as my two lil darlins get bigger.

i've used soaker hoses buried just under the surface
it seemed to work well for me.

Well, what i have is 6 "arms" of pvc pipe that are 16 feet long. They radiate from a cental point where Ginormous is now planted.Feeding into the central axis is the 110 gallons of manure tea.I only have 1 hole drilled now but as the secondary vines grow over the spokes of my system,I will drill holes every 12 inches. The tea smells to high heaven!I love it but my wife says that "I have one oar in the water."I'm in a canoe.right?,why do I need two oars?

they say its not the size of the ship that matters.. its the motion of the ocean,but.. i never really wanted to go out in the ocean in a canoe..
