WP,
I was just looking at your diary tonight and I have to agree with blkcloud. That is just about the prettiest pumpkin patch I have ever laid eyes on! I have rocks and shards of glass in my patch that is surrounded by a sagging conservation fence and a wheel barrow laid across the opening. You have knee deep, black soil then you put up that lattice fence with a nice archway to enter. It looks like some kind of painting. If my wife ever sees those pictures she will probably leave me. Believe me, I mean this as a compliment to all the hard work you've done already.

Wow what a good looking patch!! Makes me want to set my goal not only having a nice Pumpkin in the fall, but to work towards having a garden look like this one. Shows what hard work does for you.

i agree it is a very nice looking patch... but i
saw something that disturbed me .... trees- making
all that shade !
.... i think that somewhere deep inside you must not
be fully committed ?
many of us were committed long ago.
... just an observation ... :)

Will the next picture in his diary be of him holding a chain saw next to his shade tree?

WOW, thanks everyone for the kind words! You called it, the tree on the left side of the picture is soon to FALL. Also, that pic was taken about 8:pm, the sun falls mostly right between the two trees. I have full sun from about 8 am untill 4 pm, when the shade covers half the patch for an hr. 5 till a little after 7 is full sun again and then the shade creeps in a little as night falls, not to bad. But yes, a tree will soon fall, and A pic of me and the saw will soon follow.

blkcloud, I AM SORRY! I did not read these posts untill just now. Yesterday all I seen was your post and pics with MY name on it. I had no Idea of the background you were refering ( my nice looking patch) To be honest, I thought you were KNOCKING me or somehow accusing me of doctoring my pics. I AM SORRY!!! I miss interpreted what you were saying. I AM SORRY! Thanks for your compliments, Mike

Gordon, I would believe that a closser look at my diary would reveal just how commited I am to a BIG pumpkin this yr. If that doesn't convince you, the future will! Hold on baby I'm riding this one all the way to a top 5 at my weighoff this year.....Thanks everyone, MIKE

Mike, you could try directing mirrors to reflect light around those nice old trees! Seriously I did that my first year in the shaded patch and it worked! Pain in the butt though redirecting, cleaning, wind damage........

I agree with gads. Earlier I just made my decision for another patch and not the chainsaw for a beautiful old cherry tree that is now full of fruits. Too much trees are lost due to storms, we should preserve what we have. I respect everything that nature has to give, epecially a big pumpkin. But counting age, I have around 200 days for a pumpkin and 200 years for a tree, that´s a remarkable difference.

Walcott-
you're patch looks great. and i know you put a lot of time and effort into your plants and are dedicated to growing them the best you can. i have read you're diary, and
enjoy doing so.
sometimes it's hard to convey ones intentions via
workds only. I was just teasing. just so you know I use " :) " as a way to let people know that.

i was trying to use a play on the word committed...
as in when you go insane you get committed. many of
us are insane over our pumpkins. ... just trying to
be funny... but i guess i quit while i'm behind.
Mike, sorry if i offended you- that was not my
intention in anyway.

Looks great. one ? How wide is the opening in walk way. Would hate to see you grow a bigin and have to take that pretty fence apart. Looks to be around 5'. Just made me think of when I was younger and rebuilt a small block chevy in my room(had no shop and it was in the low teens) That room is now the master bedroom with a nice sliding glass door were there used to be a wall.

Thats funny Ken! Gordon, I know you were playin, no hard feelings what so ever!!! I have found pumpkin growers to be among the nicest people I have ever meet. Plus, its true, the Tree must go. Believe me, I am a tree lover and hate to cut trees down, but even without pumpkins, this one was marked to come down anyhow. Not a nice tree, and to give more room to my yard. Hey Gordon........ :)

WP,

I was just looking at your Memorial Day picture of your patch and I think I see what looks like a foot print. You may want to get out there and fix that;)

I thought for a second I saw a weed but then I noticed a cage around it so I figured it was a tomato plant or something.

That footprint is already gone....LOL....and yes there is a couple T plants and some pepper plants. Man, now I feel the pressure to keep my patch up!!!!! Thanks alot everyone! :)
