i wonder how much monetary value a world record pumpkin is worth? i remember seeing one time a 10k cash prize was awarded to somebody, by the time you sell the seeds (dont read this poppy) and endorse some fertilizer what would be the grand total??

Blkcloud, I don't know about monitary value but the looks on my boys faces when they "ride" that big one to the show in the back of the truck is priceless. The money comes & goes ( you probably won't even remember what you bought with it) but those times with my boys at the weighoffs are priceless. I know it won't rank up there with drinking with the neighbor while the wife mows the lawn, cutting off your finger or pulling a turtle out from under a bank by it's ass ( I thought I was the only one that was dumb enough to do that). But it's fun for me & the money means nothing. I can't miss what I don't have....... Ok,,,,enough of my rants, I'll go back in my shell... ....Paul

You wish: Desnowskeer: You must be going to Ray Waterman's on a good year, remember, no seed, so you get the prize only. Read & head Blkcloud. I'd take that, it's better than the returnes I recieve now. Which amount to bragging rights only & 3 cents on every US envelope that encludes a buck for return postage. Hey I'm making big money, you would be better off going back to your swamp & losing fingers if you think this hobby is going to pay. Dream On. Although you don't believe it, I admire your way of life, beaver is good & I might make that trip just to see if you are real. Bill

Bills right. The most money I ever got was $500 for a state record. Didn't cover my expenses for growing giant pumpkins. The most I ever got out of growing pumpkins was watching my kids win first place for a state record squash and my 9 year old son getting a cool pair of sun glasses. I could never get any amount of money that would top my kids elation for their accomplishment. This is a fun and rewarding family hobby. Rewarding, not being monetary.

Hi gang, I had to add my few cents here, My girlfriend and I spend more in municipal water, and Walmart fertilizer than we have ever won on prizes. Hell I spend more money starting seeds, and giving them away than I have ever won... The point is, I try to involve as many folks as possible in the game as I can. Pumpkins make folks smile. Let's try to give away as many seeds as possible and try to make the world a beerier place.

I tend to agree with blkcloud, There is something about a pumpkin patch. Maybe it goes back to Linus and Charlie Brown finding the most sincere patch. I really don't know, but I enjoy it.
