Does anyone know what percentage of water comes from directly below the main vine vs. other parts of the ground where the vines run? With extreme drought conditions, I want to know grower's perspective on how risky it is to water consistently under the vine and perhaps less so around the periphery? (ground cover/mulch is used)

Gary, since your plant will have roots throughout the whole area, generally it's better to water whole plant area instead of concentrating on one area. Steve

Gary,

The amount you water depends a lot on the type of soil you have, and how well it drains. You must have good drainage. The stump area provides most of the growth to the pumpkin, but the more root area you have, the more your plant is able to take up nutrients and water.
