Assuming the plant is not killed by a frost / freeze. Is there a potential long term effect caused by the cool weather so many of us are having this spring?

basically it slows down the growing process. Plants still grow but not at the rate that warm sunny weather brings. Steve

Here's how it goes: Germinate seed, move outdoors, put in hoophouses, weather warms up, high winds come and destroy hoop houses, FROST arrives, plants get beat by wind and torn up,YOU LOSE YOUR HOE, plant still manages to survive, SVB's,cuke beetles, disease, deer, mice, groundhogs, fungus, arrive(along with a good hailstorm). Then high heat, drought, pack of dogs in patch, fill in some of your own here: ( ). Set a pumpkin, then rot, abortions, splits, stem stress and wife problems.Cool weather and frost returns. With a little prayer and a lot of luck you MAY actually end up with a big pumpkin in October!(Good luck!)

I think we need to describe our hobby as a sport. I can explain a sport this way. Any time you are trying to score (grow a huge pumpkin) and an opposing force impedes that progress towards scoring (weather, pests, family.....) and can influence the outcome (see above) it must be called a sport.........:)
