Should a seedling/ small plant be fertalized or just watered for a while? I was wondering what the general rule or practice is? Thanks, Mike

In my winter experiments I had some bad experience with early fertilizing. Plants stopped to grow before the first true leave appeared. No root development when I pulled them off. In April I used plain organic soil and worm castings in the starting pots that were completely filled with roots when I took them outside 10 days later - with healthy looking green plants on top. That was all I needed at that point. Started to fertilize carefully now that plants are outside.

Yo Mike, The seed has enough energy built into it to help it get through the first few days of germinating. Putting fertilizer on just burns the seedling. It needs to have its seed leaves grown and turned green before it can handle any feed. The only thing I put on is a week solution of MAXICROP...which is not a fertilizer as such, just an aid to it.

Thanks everyone! How about what to do for a seedling or plant that is 1 to 4 weeks old?
