When placing a tarp over the pumpkin do you allow the tarp to touch the pumpkin or do you keep it a certain distance from the pumpkin? ===== Water

Water,
I usually just drape a sheet across 4 tomato stakes for shade, tying the sheets to the stakes with twine. Mine never touch the pumpkin and this allows for good air circulation, but Al Eaton said at the seminar, that when he's too busy for shade structures, he just covers his pumpkin(s) with a blanket. Whatever floats yer boat!

I know that some growers do both. a blanket to keep the fruit warm and shade structure to keep any rain out. 4 pieces of rebar, 2 pvc pipes, some clips and one tarp- makes a nice easy shade structure.
