Are the vines of a pumpkin hollow from one end to another? Do the have walls or sections inside the stem.Is my question clear?

I know that the ends of vines are hollow because I snapped my main vine once, but I also know that last year when the season was over I checked my main vine 3 feet out and it was solid all the way through. So I guess maybe they grow solid after awhile but form hollow.
