Subject: what does " filed" mean?

i have heard people using the term filing their seeds and i was wondering what exactly does that mean?

Idiot, turn your seed so it's flat like a penny. You'll have a seed coat on top and a seed coat on bottom. You'll see between the two there is a lighter color band around the seed edge. This is the area that you gently file with fingernail file or sand paper. When you file, you'll eventually see a slight green color. File all the way around the seed edge, be gentle around point area. The green is the seed leaves that your exposing. Theory is by filing you allow better water penetration and the easier it'll be for seed coating to come off, thus increasing germination time. Hope this helps. Steve
