gosh dave, i wish i knew. The only thing that i can think of is root rot. that means that they are too saturated. the roots drowned. But i dont know. I wouldnt think the shop lights would burn them at all, even at a half inch below the lights.
My tomatos are under lights right now and they are looking sick. Lots of the leaves are almost a white as if they lost their green. But you can see the green veins that run through the middle part of the leaves. Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on there?

Did you by any chance put them out in the sun for a little while the other day Bones?

A few years ago, I was growing tomatoes under grow lights. (not sure if they are any better than floresent shop lights or not). The plants got real white and pretty much quit growing. Since then, I move the plants to a south facing window a day or two after the pop out of the soil. I have had great tomato plants ever since.

David;
This has happened to me years ago... not to say it is your problem, but mine was due to an unbalanced PH... too much peat moss and no lime to raise it up high enough. The over saturated soil usually causes that though, as I noticed with the clones. Any one else have a diagnosis?
Marc...
P.S. the "curse breaker" is my best so far, go figure!
