I prefer cow manure. No real reason, but if you apply manure now make sure it is well composted as fresh manure applied in the spring/summer will burn your plants.

ahh, a topic i can truly sink my teeth into! LOL........horses are not ruminates, meaning that they dont "chew there cud" like cows do. Because of this, more weed seeds pass through a horse's digestive system then a cows digestive system. you'll get weeds either way, but horse manure you'll get more weeds. horse manure is slightly higher in N i believe, but not enough so that id worry about it. and cow manure just smells so much better.......mmmmmmmmmm.mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Cow manure does smell good when it's properly composted. Tom

Back when I was a kid, when driving through the countryside and smelling manure, my Dad would always take a deep breath and say " AH, Fresh country air!"(We kids were gagging!) This term has become a "family tradition!", that I have graciously passed down to my own kids. The best manure is free manure!
