since everyone has bugged me to buy AG seeds, i went ahead and got them. the spot that i have chosen gets sun from about midmorning till dusk. is that enough sun? also what kind of fertiler should i use to make the vines grow over a vast area, and what type should be used when fruit set and flower. remember i am new and i want fast rewards(big big pumpkin). also how can you tell if a manure is ready to use? it be all black? also do you think horse manure is ok?? thanks

the best advice i or anyone can give you is, try and buy the book "How - to - grow- World Class Giant Pumpkins ll.
this book will help you out alot being a new grower. here is a phone number where you can buy it for $ 17.95 1-800-449-5681. the place is P&P seed co.

PI,
I would recomend that you buy Don Langevin's book of "How-To-Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins 1 & 2". Get that book ASAP and read it a few times for there is a tremendous amount of information in those books.

Last year was my first year to grow them and all I did was give each plant 100 sq. feet. I was originally told to just plant them with extra space and sit back and watch them grow. They did not recieve the attention early on because I was just watching them grow. I was still able to obtain weights of 178 and 184 lbs(Small by todays standards, but I was still proud of it) by finding this site halfway through the growing season.

Get the books.....Tom

Yes , get the books . Last year was my first try at growing giant pumpkins and squash . I call volume II "My Pumpkin Bible". It has just about everything you need to know about the giants. Both books are very well written and every time you read them, you will pick up something new . SO read them over and over when you can . They should have been call Giant Pumpkin & Squash Growing For Dummies , like all the other "How To" dummies books . Good luck this year!!!

Chuck,

I met the author of these books, Don Langevin at the Niagra Convention this year, where he signed my copies of the book.(He likes seeing dog-eared pages that are falling out!)No definate answer when asked when Vol. 3 will be out, although the book he planned on giant carvings has been put on a back burner.
