"This forum is for advanced growers only. Novice growers can read but may not post."
Sorry that doesn´t sound they´re off for a good start. I like BP.com for the fact it´s a community where everyone can talk to each other. I´m a novice grower for myself and so I need to ask if I don´t know, and you will and can never know enough. It´s a system of sharing experience and permanent learning from each other that we´re all in, isn´t it?

For us less-experienced growers to be able to ask questions and recieve answers from experienced growers is what makes BP.com, in my opinion, the best scource of knowledge for growing 'em. I'm just curious as to how many registered users on BP.com. Can anyone say?

I think even Howard Dill would object to a site like this. He would be bored asking a question and answering himself. I think That all the big guys actually like sharing information to the "Uninformed" and I think That the new growers need the primers help of where to get The books etc. The first questions asked show they have an interest that will develope with time. IF your a second year grower and have done the reading and seen the answers to a new comers post ..Then answer it... save the big guys from having to do everything..If you answer it wrong they'll jump in and clarify, if not save them the time.I Sound like Dennis Miller off on a rant...but that's Just my opinion...I could be wrong!!!

I don't know much Troy, but making statements like (This forum is for advanced growers only. Novice growers can read but may not post) will never get good responses from people.
I'm a hellava long way from being a advanced grower but even I can help out sometimes.........Paul

I just went and looked at the site. It appears to be a good idea to me, just not worded well, and the kinks havent been worked out. I personally would like to see a advanced growers forum (obviously one that I could not be a part of, and specifications to be worked out some way, dont ask me how) The email appears that it could be used, so the person that posts could be contacted in private. I say lets give this guy a chance, and see if he can make it more "friendly" to all. I noticed that there is a "Novice" growers forum as well. It obviously will never be a BigPumpkins.com, but another site to frequent would be fine with me. Just my thoughts.

Hey ,guy's, its new , give the guy a chance, maybe we will see some of the heavy hitters use this format, God knows we don't see them now & we are still allowed to read what they exchange in information, ask yourself the question how many times do you want to answer the same question ? maybe that is why the heavy hitter stay away from BP ???? Just a thought.

you make a good point poppy. Im sure people get tired of answering the same basic questions over and over again. But I truly dont believe such a thing as advanced. If you succeed and understand all terminology, does that make you advanced? It seems to me that many of you people here on bp.com would rank in the "advanced" category. True, it may have sounded rude and interpreted that way, but Im sure he/she means no disrespect. Its like antiques under a glass. Sometimes they say dont touch, ask for assistance.
Besides, as flohberger stated way up above, its all about sharing information and learning off one another. And I really dont care how good you are, there is always room for improvement. Thank you

if the heavy hitters, excluding a few, dont post here, what makes you think that they would post there? just because it says experienced growers only?......there inbox's will be flooded with emails, from growers like ourselves. i assure you, it will take alot more then a message board stating no novices to make the heavy hitters start posting. the mallorn list has been around for years.....go back to the beginning, and see who posted waaay back then.....brett hester, wayne hackney, i think george brooks also......you wont see Larue, or Mettler, or any other heavy hitter you dont hear from now. my opinion.....this is not going to bring heavy hitters out of the woodwork, and i for one will not be going back to that site again. i am more then satisfyed with what ken and john have done with bp.com.

I'm in favor of any site that promotes the sport of giant pumpkin growing. But to be honest Big pumpkins Has made me the Grower that I'm Today with out the help Of Growers during My first two years I don"t Think I would have grow a pumpkin over 500lbs. Best of luck with anyone that is putting together a site to promote our hobby as of for now it seems to need alot of work. Mark

Thanks for the input guys. I have changed the "advanced" for now. Due to the suggestions made here. I am not trying replace or outdue Bigpumpkins.com. I look at it more as filling in where other sites lack. I had a page a long time ago that coicided with the development of world class giant pumpkins page.....precurser to this site! I worked with them along with guys like duncan who also supports a page. I hope I can do the same thing now. I see things have not changed much since I have been away from the hobby for a couple of years "grew some children" :).....it's still shoot first ask questions later.
