Subject: Which way should pumpkin vines grow

I'm from the live in the center of New York State. which way should you have your pumpkin main vine growing? I have always been told East to West. Now i have been told it doesn't matter. Got any in put on this?

Whatever direction works best in the patch. I don't think it makes any difference.

North to south would be the better situation.....The reason being is that the sun would shine on the east side,middle,and west side of the plant....I would call this more uniform! If the plant grew east to west you would get most of your sun on the stump,all of the left side south,and the end of the vine west.....I think you get the idea! The hottest and most direct sun would be more on the left side south...In the last secnerio. In the first it would be more over the whole plant. Chris

i like my vines to grow so that the prevailing wind blows from the stump towards the vine tips this way if your wind break doesn't do it's job it SHOULD reduce vine damage
