Hi everyone, I have a question to ask all of you. I moved at the end of last year to a townhouse style condo. My back yard is consideribly smaller, and my garden is just over 60 square feet. I'm wondering if this is big enough to even attempt to grow a giant pumpkin. The yard in total is about 600 square feet, and I would let the plant spread out all over, but with only 6 X 10 feet of soil would this be enough. I'm able to grow 1 plant at a freind's farm, but it's almost an hour away, and would love to have something closer to home. Alright everyone, what should I do?

I would give it a shot.....I would bury as much of the vine as possible, and make sure you prepare the soil real good! I grew a 370 lber in 20 by 8 feet!! Chris....Good Luck :)

go for it ! You're going to have to think about how you are going to train and prune the plant and set fruit on it in the small patch. what if you don't get a female till 10-15 ft out ? but it can be done. I've heard of people growing good sized pumpkins in really small plots. good luck

Grow it by all means, unless you also grow edibile veggies then it's a tough choice! I bet you could still grow a neighbourhood record pumkin in that small space!

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll give it a shot. The veggies will just have to grow in the flower beds!

Last year was my first and I planted a 357 mongeon in a planter box of 20 sq. ft and it did fine. It grew to 250lbs before powdery mildew killed the plant and the pumpkin stopped growing. You got 3 times the dirt so you should be fine.

Hi Smitty-Last year was my first year- I put 6 of my best plants in a 30by30ft.garden of well prepared-ph perfect soil-they went nuts! It was like killing babies, but I had to pull out three nice plants to make room for the others-they did well, but I did alot of pruning and burying- ended up losing an aprox.200# &a 250#er before putting a nice180#er on my porch-But I never had more fun! Go 4 It!
