The weather here in Ohio was mid 60's yesterday, it's 66 right now & the forcast is for mid 60's Friday. I know it's WAY,WAY to early to plant so I just wish it would cool down a little so I don't have to fight the urge. I did get to apply my first application of fertilizer to the yard ( I'm a fanatical about my lawn & flower beds as I am my pumpkins). That's all ,I was just courios if anyone else had to buy a straight jacket to keep from putting something in the ground........Paul

Paul-

you crack me up ! LOL! ... i've been in the same
boat... but not this year. it snowed at my house
yesterday (just a trace) and might again today
(The TV media is going nust... talk about making
a story)
so luckly the urge to plant early isn't there-
or should i say happening here.
one year i just had a new garden... planted like
8 mounds of yellow squash and the other popluar kind
that i can't spell.
tons of squash later....

Paul, It's not too early for onion sets if you "just got to plant". Also not too early for peas, although I always plant mine on St. Patties Day (just for luck!)I tried talking John and Ken into setting up a link for growing a Giant "Virtual" Pumpkin last winter, but they are just too busy!

I've been wanting to get the roto-tiller out for a month now. One weekend it's 60, then it's 20, then it's 60 again. Maybe I'll till this weekend. It's supposed to be 60 again.

Gordon, I understand what your saying about the news making a big deal out of nothing. Everytime we get a inch of snow the local news always has someone doing a "live remote" from the salt barns talking about the "WHITE DEATH" that has come upon us..Quick run to the store & buy up all the bread & milk you can , it won't melt for 4 days....LOL
And Jim, I am putting out some lettuce & onions, but I have to still haul in some more topsoil for my extended tomatoe patch, hopefully Friday that will get done......

hey you

Greencastle, PA

It was 74 here today, it's supposed to be like that tomarrow too. But a cold front is moving in this weekend, bringing some much needed rain. I still have a lot of work to do in the patch, so the urge to plant isn't to bad here, but if I could I would.

Paul, from what I have heard we are to dip back into the 30's by Saturday again. So the rollercoaster winter is at it again.

It was nice having the kids outside today. I also received my gallon of "Neptunes Harvest" today. (Thanks for sponsering the chats) Boy, now that is a tease I was fighting the urge to use it on "anything" today just to say to myself that I'm ready for spring....Tom

Huff, use this time to get all those "Pesky" outside chores done that always interfere with pumpkins! We just got blasted with 5" of snow Wed. and more on the way! Even my Seattle area partners got hit with "The white death"...

Hey Gads, It's not those "pesky" outside chores that interfere with my pumpkins. It's those pesky "indoor" chores. Honey, the washers broke....Honey,lets paint the livingroom.......Honey, do I have to paint myself orange to get you to pay attention to me......HELL YEA !!!! and die your hair green while your at it.....

Still have about a month before the snow is of my patch, but once its gone things move quickly around here. To help satisfy the early urge to plant I have just rebuilt my grow table and I will be rewiring the lights this weekend - almost time to start my tomatoes, onions and peppers!

I have planted already, I need the extra months so I can catch up on sunlight that you northerners get each summer. We are well past the last frost. I hope a 210 day growing season will help me to get a big one. If you all are antsy come over to my patch I need some help spreading compost.
Good luck to all

Last night, we got wacked with the same crappy storm that Casey just described. There ain't gonna be any planting outside for a while. Inside, however, I've got 5 seed flats started so far. Hot peppers-Carribean reds, Habanero, Hungarian Yellow, Super Chilli, and Jalapeno. Sweet peppers-Big Bertha, Bell Boy, Sweet Banana, Giant Marconi, Aruba Hybrid,Gypsy Hybrid, and Rainbow Bell. Some Tomatoes are started also.

With the wind constantly blowing saturday I have found about 18 tabs of shingles from the roof in the yard, three shutters ripped off the outside walls, a leak around the fireplace chimney in my boys room. Now with my wife due in three weeks my list of things to do before the arrival is now twice as long....Tom

We just got anther 1/2 of rain last night. It is supposed to rain 4/5 days next week. We need the rain t o get through the summer as all of CA has to irrigrate their crops. I can't ever walk in the pumpkin field where I plowed last week. You sink in the muddy clay.

I had wind at 62 miles an hour in Litchfield OH Sat. My cold frame that I was testing my new vent opener on was still in one piece Sunday morning. Can not say as much for some of the local pine trees.

Just noticed this afternoon that my chicken house roof is missing a 5 x 5 section of roofing and my barn is missing a 2' x 15' section of metal roofing. Musta ben the wind. Better now than during the summer. Can't imagine seeing Giant pumpkins rolling down the road....Tom

I came home today and found my garage window busted out, and a soft ball laying in the middel of the mess! I had to trample my South Side Cover Crop to get the 48"x42" slider window out. Man that hurt worse than the $130.00 for the new window!!! I knew this would happen if I bought a home across from a school yard! I wouldn't trade for nothing though, it's great fun to sit on the front porch and cheer on the home town team! (K-6)... Plus the kids love the garden.

YesterdayI got the John Deere out and dug six pumpkin growing pits and filled them with horse manure. I'll let the manure compost until late May. I had to do something instead of just sitting around and waiting.
