I am thinking about heating my hoop house with a small propane heater. Does anyone know it this would be harmful to the plant, as long as it don't get too hot? (I asked this question somewhere on the site, but derned if I can remember where).

Not a good idea at all Randoooo. Toxic fumes will destroy the plant especialy without proper ventilation. Electric may be you safest, its only for a short period.Jim

I've found that one or two incandescent light bulbs generally is enough for a small hoop house.

Randoo: I use an old small quartz heater (electric)it's around 10 " high an 30 " long & an electric stove burner (single coil)both of these have dials and i set them around 2/3 to max.I have never baked a plant and never lost one to frost. But if you go this way be sure to test it out in the hoop with a thermometer, mine keeps the plants around 45 to 50 at night when it's below 30.Good luck.John

I have a gas heater with thermostat and N2o detector in my greenhouse that is very cheap to "feed" from camping gas bottles. Using electricity would rise my bill up to 150 $ each frosty month as experienced a year ago. There is a fertilizing effect as well: gas heaters provide your greenhouse with CO2, so I would recommend it. But be sure to have a heater that is intended for the use in greenhouses not to cook your plants! Ingo

I use light bulbs in those cheap clamp on reflectors, just point them at the ground and heat up the soil.
